Morning Coffee

We moved in June 2018 to our new home near the town of Cadaval.

Every place has its own traditions, and the food is a big part of the tradition here in Portugal.
A good morning starts with the morning coffee (the Portuguese breakfast if you will), and the best place to have t is in one of your locals coffee shops.

The coffee itself is absolutely fantastic all over the country and you can get your favorite brand name in one of the coffee shops in your area, but the bread is a totally different story.

Every region, sub-region and sometimes even village, has its own bread, and bread rolls.
Even if they are called the same, the taste is absolutely unique to each place.

Well, all this was to explain the image of our local coffee house and please take notice of that yummy, crusty bread roll (you can almost hear it cracking).

I love Portugal! no doubt about it!

Celebrating a New Life

Here is one of the day-old five puppies that were just delivered to us by Galga – the stray dog we adopted three months ago.

It is just amazing how they survive with closed eyes and without hearing. Their eyes and ears will start functioning in about 2 weeks.

It is life, and it is so marvelous and so beyond our understanding. It is a miracle, taking some matter and animating it with life! This is truly a godly action!

And to end the suspense, here are the other four.

Evening of a summer day

After some weeks of heat that sometimes continued through the night, we had our first late afternoon of a cool, delicious, paradise-like evening!

It is certainly the beginning of the end of summer.

What you can not see here in this panoramic photo is the SILENCE, the awesome silence of evening falling.

Wish you were here!

Summer in the studio

The view from our studio is magnificent – we love it!

But the view in the summer is not just breath taking but also gives the feeling (and justification( of doing nothing

It is like that  during the day

In the night the cool laziness is still there in the air.

Isn’t the song “Sunny Afternoon” by The Kinks just the best background music?

ENJOY the music and the summer! Love and Peace!

PS Here are the lyrics if you wanna sing along…

The tax man’s taken all my dough
And left me in my stately home
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
And I can’t sail my yacht
He’s taken everything I got
All I’ve got’s this sunny afternoon

Save me, save me, save me from this squeeze
I gotta big fat mama trying to break me
And I love to live so pleasantly
Live this life of luxury
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
In the summertime
In the summertime
In the summertime

My girlfriend’s run off with my car
And gone back to her ma and pa
Telling tails of drunkenness and cruelty
Now I’m sitting here
Sipping at my ice cold beer
Lazing on a sunny afternoon

Help me, help me, help me sail away
Well give me two good reasons why I oughta stay
‘Cause I love to live so pleasantly
Live this life of luxury
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
In the summertime
In the summertime
In the summertime

Ah, save me, save me, save me from this squeeze
I gotta big fat mama trying to break me
And I love to live so pleasantly
Live this life of luxury
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
In the summertime
In the summertime
In the summertime
In the summertime
In the summertime

How fashion has changed

That is the traditional way the women in Nazaré (it is a small fishing village in the middle of the country) used to wear decades ago.

Of course, the fashion has changed, but the old women are still wearing this same outfit.

This woman is busy renting the tents on the beach for the morning inflow of beachgoers.

While visiting Nazaré (Portuguese for Nazareth), we overlooked the small town and Solange introduced Escova to the Atlantic ocean. Solange is passionately in love with Escova as is obvious.

By the way, Escova was definitely not impressed by the ocean.

What is your idea about this fashion of yesteryear?

The Meaning of Life

Fuji is 14 years old (98 man years) and as such he sometimes takes a pause and ponders about the meaning of life.

But being a very smart and practical dog (he is a Portuguese hunting dog that never had to hunt…) he just shakes his head after a few minutes and goes to the kitchen to check if the next meal is ready.

We love you!

My love for purple

The summer is here. There are so many purple flowers trees in full blossom.

I love purple. Wikipedia says: “According to surveys In Europe and the U.S., purple is the color most often associated with royalty, magic, mystery, and piety.  When combined with pink, it is associated with eroticism, femininity, and seduction”.  WOW, I did not know this one!

Anyhow this color is also the color of our Soul by Solange logo

And so, there is no surprise, when my husband stopped the car and posed me near one of these awesome purple trees. The result is up there. Tell me, is that pretty?

It is time again for fresh Pizza and Spaghetti

June greets us every year with an abundance of lovely, water mouthing smell OREGANO bushes.

Oregano is a major participant in the preparation of Italian food, and we also use it for curing our own olives, on which we will talk later on when we prepare them this year.

The oregano buses are in full blossom now, and we use them in their fresh form in our summer salads, spaghetti, etc.soon they will get dry.

Soon the oregano will dry, and at that point, we pick up the branches, bring them home and take off the Oregano leaves, which we store until next summer.

Gorgeous, tasty and absolutely 100% Bio !!!  Another perk of living in the Portuguese countryside.
